TEXT: John 7:1-9
INTRO: Tonight we are going to look at some passages and note the way Jesus’ everyday existence helps us to identify with Him in a special way. I call the message, “A Peek at the Human Life of God’s Son.
I. JESUS FACED THE PROBLEM OF OTHER PEOPLE’ AGENDAS.
A. READVs. 1, Jesus was not exempt from having to fit His schedule and activities into the calendars of other people
B.. Before becoming exasperated and feeling cheated, just remember such things are just common parts of life. Even Jesus had to do it.
II.JESUS WAS UNDER THE RESTRAINTS OF A PLAN HE COULD NOT CHANGE.
A. READ Vss. 3, 6-9. Jesus tells His brothers that His “time has not come.” He’s simply pointing out that He is at work in the carrying out of a plan, and must stick with the script until it was done.
B. Ephesians 1: 4, “For [God] chose us in [Christ], before the foundation of the world.” Vs. 9, Paul adds, “He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure that He planned in Him” The entire life of Jesus here on earth was planned out before it began.
ILLUS: Hearing people complain about the life they are trapped in, is a common thing.
- Planning has always been a good idea. We should never become intolerant or impatient with the plan God has for our lives. It will bring us the greatest success and satisfaction.
III. JESUS HAD FAMILY PROBLEMS.
A. READ vss. 2-5./ Mk. 3:20-21. Three important facts:
1.) Jesus’ brothers tried to cause Jesus to get hurt. Matt. 4, Satan to Jesus: “If you are the son of God, throw Yourself down for it is written [God will tell His angels to take care of You.” Jesus answered “It is also written: do not test the Lord your God.”
2.) Mark says His family thought He was out of His mind.
3.) His brothers just did not believe He was who He claimed to be. Mk. 3:35, “Whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.” James and Jude, came to believe after His resurrection.
B. Everyone has some trying moments with his or her families.
CONCLUSION
“Mama said there’d be days like this, there’ll be days like this my mama said.”
But, isn’t like the Lord to take even the junk and turn it into treasure?
Hebrews 4, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.”
Even a little peek into the life of Jesus rewards us with the knowledge that He knows who we are and what we go through. And He was still willing to die for us!
